The WGS Data Management group is developing the Visual Analytic Energy (VAE) data management tool. The VAE solution will use adaptive visual analytical techniques to allow customers to quickly review important information about the grid and perform in-depth analysis. In general, the VAE solution will allow utilities to monitor, manage, forecast and act based on the status of the grid while considering security requirements such as NERC-CIP, ZigBee, and HomePlug in a user friendly visual platform.
At the heart of the VAE solution will be analytical filters that possess the capability to handle the torrents of energy management data (from sensors, meters, voltage detection, weather, etc) that must be processed, evaluated and transformed into actionable measures for utility companies. To accomplish this, the VAE solution will account for several emerging standards, such as the common information model (CIM), IEC 61850, and Multi Speak to allow various data sources to communicate via a common standard.
